Will Brit Rock Next Week?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Britney Spears is set to release the first single off her fifth studio album as soon as next week.

Shizz. I can’t wait to hear this mess-terpiece.

Two of the alleged tracks were leaked to PerezHilton.com last week – and they were unlistenable mélanges of angst and insanity.

A source at Jive Records says the single is called ‘’Gimme More,'’ an up-tempo club cut produced by Timbaland protégé Nate ‘’Danjahandz'’ Hills. ‘’Gimme More'’ was also the name of the music video that Spears was spotted shooting in July at a Los Angeles nightclub.

Word at Jive is that the label is not happy with the embittered pop star and hopes that this single will pretty much put a nail in her career. Jive had paired Spears with hitmaker Ne-Yo, the man responsible for Beyonce Knowles smash “Irreplaceable”.

The singer/songwriter/producer was on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Wednesday morning and he explained what went wrong with the musical pairing:

“I have no idea what’s going on with Britney Spears right now. The last thing I heard was that Britney was mad at me over some songs that were supposed to go to her that wound up going to Nicole Scherzinger. She got the first look. I wrote the songs for Britney Spears, but this was before she shaved her head and went into rehab again. Nicole took the songs and recorded them.

Here’s how it happened, I was working with Britney Spears’ people. I wrote 6 to 8 songs for Britney Spears, working really closely with her A&R people at her label. Then Britney Spears goes ahead and shaves her head and goes into rehab. When that happened, I lost all contact with her A&R people, with her label. I was calling them, they weren’t returning phone calls, wouldn’t answer my calls. I’m like, ‘Alright. I guess they’re not interested anymore.’ In the process of all that going on, that’s when I met [Pussycat Doll] Nicole Scherzinger. She’s like, ‘Hey, I’m putting an album together; I’d love you to be a part of it.’ I played her two songs, she loved them.

“They cut a check, she recorded the songs. Those are her songs. After that happened, that’s when Britney Spears’ people called me like, ‘Hey, why are you giving away Britney’s music?’ I’m like, hold on. Y’all ain’t cutting me no check!”

Yeah, sounds like that comeback is going as well as her custody case.
Us Magazine is reporting that Brit-Brit presented her opening act to MTV executives this past Monday, and that she’s “planning it to be a big comeback performance,” and that her goal is to make it “shocking.”

Amusingly enough, one idea that got the nix was a performance of “My Prerogative” within a medley of her old hits, while images of Justin Timberlake and the Fed-Ex showed on a screen behind her.

This may be the best kept secret in the music business, because Yuddy.com’s sources at MTV/Viacom and Jive Records continue to vehemently deny that Spears is performing AT ALL.

Well, this should send Brit right back to the brink – can’t wait to see what “Crazy” she pulls out of her bag of tricks!
