In a post writer’s strike high major networks have been scrambling to bring back your regularly scheduled programming.

While reality TV has been rotting our brains for the past few months the ever growing trend of switching stations has become more than apparent. While Showtime’s Dexter is picked up by prime time until next season, TV shows like Scrubs have been left in limbo.

Although scheduled to end it’s run it has been rumored that the NBC series, which has been running on the network since 2001 is making a move to rival network ABC for an 18 episode deal. It is a rare event for a television program to make such a jump, though JAG and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been moved in the past, given the popularity of Scrubs and the reruns that kept all of us going throughout the strike months of baron television it may just breathe new life into the well known series.

Though scheduled for 18 episodes with NBC the writer’s strike cut the show to just 12, they even had the stupid idea of throwing the final episodes into a straight to DVD release. The good news for the new network is that Scrubs already has it’s very own built in audience and this could be a major ratings boost for the ABC network who scored big with last season’s hit Samantha Who? For all of us Scrub fans this is an excellent repreve for a series that’s fate was always somewhat questionable.

Zach Braff was quoted as saying, “When we saw the first couple of scripts this year, there was a noticeable change. The volume was sort of turned up on the wackiness. And we all kind of laughed to ourselves and thought, Well, I guess Bill just sort of said ‘I’m going to make the show I want to make.’ And I think we all took the spirit of that and said: ‘This could be the last year and we love this job, so let’s have fun with it. Let’s just lean into the turn and see what happens.’ ”

Fortunately for the entire cast of the medical comedy it seems that the over the top scripts and zany storylines have gained both a critical and cult following noticed by network execs. Good move ABC! Can’t wait til next season!
