Helping to keep Mia Farrow’s hunger strike high profile and in the public eye over the next 15 days, fellow activist, George Clooney has paid tribute to 64 year old Farrow for her dedicated campaigning and constant highlighting of the plight of the people of Darfur.

Clooney said, “I ran into Mia in Chad this January. She’d been living in the camps and villages on the border of Darfur for weeks. She is as dedicated to this cause as any activist I know. It’s these kind of efforts that help keep this tragedy in the spotlight.”

Although Clooney himself hasn’t embarked on anything as drastic as a two week fast he is one of many stars who attempts to bring to the attention of politicians in Washington D.C. and the public in general the cruelty and suffering experienced by the people in the Sudan region of Africa.

Last week, The Great Gatsby actress, Farrow, announced she would start fasting as “a personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease.”

Today was the second full day of Mia’s fast which sees her taking only water. Her two week fast is being blogged on MiaFarrow.org. where she writes, “I undertake this fast in the heartfelt hope that world leaders who know what is just and right will call upon the government of Sudan to urgently readmit all of the expelled agencies or otherwise insure [sic] that the gap is filled, giving aid workers unimpeded access to the populations before they begin to die in numbers that could dwarf the Rwandan genocide.” She signed off, “I hope human rights advocates and citizens of conscience around the world will join me in some form of fasting, even if for one day. And when I can no longer continue, I pray another will take my place, and another - until finally there is justice and peace for Darfur’s people.”

Miss Farrow is the former wife of Frank Sinatra and the conductor André Previn.
