There can be few of us who dont remember sitting on the settee on a Friday night watching the snippey old retiree residents of Blanche Devereaux’s home in Miami in the much loved TV comedy, The Golden Girls, and, as with Sex and the City, choosing our favourite character.

But now the era of Dorothy Zbornak, her mother Sophia Petrillo, Rose Nylund and Blanche Devereaux has finally come to an end with the death of Bea Arthur over the weekend.

In much the same way as we would have loved have seen The Beatles reform, but the idea was read more ....

Phil Spector’s Wall of Silence!

Posted under Free for All & Phil Spector & Elvis Presley & John Lennon & Barack Obama & Tina Turner & The Beatles

 SPECTOR 5.jpg

The ‘Wall of Sound’ creator, Phil Spector, will not be making any more sounds for at least the next 15 years when he is sentenced in May 29th to a cell of silence in prison following a guilty verdict which comes 6 years after the music producer shot his actress girlfriend Lana Clarkson, in the mouth in the foyer of his California mansion.

Spector had become known for his drunken attacks on women while brandishing a gun, for many years but it was the murder of the Barbarian Queen actress Clarkson that finally brought the curb crawling creep to read more ....

Paul McCartney: Flying Low In New York!

Posted under Free for All & Paul McCartney & Heather Mills & Stella McCartney & The Beatles & nancy shevell

paul m.jpg

When Paul McCartney arrived to lend his support to the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York, two things became apparent about the ex Beatle. He’s obviously very aware of the old adage, ‘it pays to advertise’, and at 66 years old he must also believe that ’dead men don’t fall out of windows!, as he blew through the entrance with his fly zip undone. And as for his taste in ladies, he showed the world that he clearly isn’t a ‘leg man’.

U2 Can Have a Street Named After You in New York City!

Posted under Free for All & David Letterman & Bono & U2 & The Beatles

u2 way.jpg

Unlike the street name in Liverpool, Penny Lane, famously named after The Beatle’s jaunty little number, the temporary street name in Manhattan, named after Bono’s band U2, probably wont need to be hung 200 feet up a building to prevent thieving fans from taking away a memento of their trip to New York city.

The street, a block along West 53rd in mid town Manhattan has been named U2 Way this week as the Irish boys entertain on the David Letterman show every night this week.

The four band members joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine read more ....

The Day the Music Died: Buddy Holly Celebrated

Posted under Free for All & The Rolling Stones & The Beatles & buddy holly & don mcLean

buddy 1.jpg

It was 50 years, yes 50 years ago today that Richie Valance, Buddy Holly and J.P. Richardson, known as “The Big Bopper”, boarded a small aircraft on February 3rd 1959 which was to be the final trip of their lives as the plane crashed in bad weather, in a corn field in Iowa, killing all on board.

Today, half a century later, the musical trio are being celebrated around the world, but more so in Clear Lake, Iowa - the scene of their last performance, where a large concert is planned, and in Buddy Holly’s hometown of Lubbock, read more ....

Paul McCartney: Beach Boy and Bachelor Boy!

Posted under Free for All & Paul McCartney & Heather Mills & The Beatles

Has it always been a hidden desire of Paul McCartney’s to be a Beach Boy or is he just as happy being a Cliff Richard styled Bachelor Boy?

From the recent shots of the newly divorced ex Beatle, he certainly isn’t wasting anytime trying to figure out why he’s single at the age of 66 as he paddles through the warm waters off the coast of Mexico with the new lady in his life, 48 year old socialite, Nancy Shevell.

Although being far from a heartthrob member of the 1960’s band, The Beatles, who wooed young women world wide read more ....

Paul McCartney: The ‘Lost’ Beatles Epic

Posted under Free for All & Paul McCartney & John Lennon & George Harrison & The Beatles & Yoko Ono & ringo star

 beatles 5.jpg

Can there be any other band who, with two of its members deceased, another one off the rector scale with arrogance and only one remaining member still mentally stable, alive and kicking, remain as high profile for more than 40 years, than The Beatles?

The answer is probably, no!

But once again, the fab four are set to be hurtled back into the spotlight as Paul McCartney reveals that, Carnival of Light, the track which was put together on 5th January 1967, in between working on the vocals for the song, Penny Lane, should now be released to the read more ....

Wham! Bam Goodbye Man! George Michael Bows Out!

Posted under Free for All & The Rolling Stones & George Michael & The Beatles

 wham shirt.jpg

After leaving the pink gloves, the fluorescent green shorts and the blonde streaked hair of the 1980’s in the dim and distant past, this weekend also saw the end of the George Michael we have come to know and love in the past 2 decades. The George Michael of the tailored suits, dark glasses and designer stubble will be seen no more on stage.

After a total of 25 years in the music business, George has finally hung up his tinted glasses and sharp suits in favour of a quieter life that will see him writing songs and relaxing with read more ....

Flying Colours For Mariah Carey!

Posted under Free for All & Elvis Presley & Mariah Carey & The Beatles

Has anyone seen the Empire State Building with its top 33 floors lit up, peach, purple and cream before? No!

Has any female performer ever had 18 number ones on Billboard before? No!

Then put the two together and there’s the answer!

This weekend, upon questioning various people in Manhattan, I was reliably informed, the ESB was regally lit in purple to celebrate the achievement made by New York’s own diva Mariah Carey, who this week took over the number one spot with Touch My Body

Which has been taken from her latest album, Touch My Body from her read more ....

Heather Mills: Spitting Venom Didn’t Pay Off!

Posted under Free for All & Paul McCartney & Heather Mills & The Beatles

Â

heather mills.jpgHow does the old saying go? ‘He who laughs last laughs longest!’ Well, The Beatle’s legend, Sir Paul McCartney may be parting with between £25 - £30 million from the fortune he amassed from his talent and hard work during his life time, but its no where near the £100,000,000 that the gold digging Heather Mills was holding out for. So he must be splitting his sides!

On top of the lump sum, which may be paid in installments, there will be annual maintenance payments for the couple’s daughter, Beatrice, which could be as much as £100,000.

The settlement read more ....
