Legendary singer and entertainer Robert Goulet died today at the tender age of 73. He was waiting for a lung transplant after being diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in September, says the Hollywood Reporter. The crooner passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Quintessential crooner Robert Goulet is heavily sedated and awaiting a lung transplant, according to the AP.

“He can hear me but he can’t respond,” said his wife Vera.

The singer fell ill when flying home to Las Vegas after performing at a Sept. 20 concert in Syracuse, N.Y., his wife said. Doctors initially assumed it was some kind of bug, but he got weaker until he had to be rushed to the hospital 10 days later, she said.
