September 14th 2009 was a yet another sad day for the world of celebrity as the hunky Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze succumbs to the complications associated with pancreatic cancer.

This year has seen the demise of so many iconic celebrity figures, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Bea Arthur, David Carradine, Ed McMahn, Dominick Dunne, Edward Kennedy, Carl Malden, Natasha Richardson, Walter Kronkite and of course the UK’s Wendy Richards and Jade Goody.

But for fans of Swayze it has all ended too soon, at the age of just 57.

As actor Patrick Swayze battles with pancreatic cancer it has been revealed that to ease his pain he has been using the illegal drug, marijuana, as he finds it increasingly difficult to eat and has been feeling extemely weak.

According to the National Enquirer, the 56 year old star of Ghost, has found that smoking pot helps ease his nausea, insomnia and anxiety. The magazine also revealed from a source that, “He’s recently gained a little weight and feels more normal than he has in months. Patrick was rapidly losing weight because he couldn’t keep food down. Its not often that a late diagnosis of pancreatic cancer gives a victim a reasonable chance of survival but that certainly seems to be the case with Dirty Dancing star, Patrick Swayze.

Just a few months ago it seemed that the world’s tabloids and bloggers were waiting at the bottom of the guillotine, busy knitting, while awaiting the news that Patrick Swayze had passed.

But with the recent release of this photograph, that clearly shows Patrick, 56, and his wife Lisa Niemi, in happy place, accompanied by their dogs, the waiting was obviously pure speculation.

Patrick Swayzee is no longer the handsome Dirty Dancing star as he battles with pancreatic cancer and struggles to get through smallest of takes without support from a lamp post.

Having dropped several pounds in weight and losing his hair from the cancer treatment he has been undergoing, Patrick looks a shadow of his former self. His clothes hang on his now reduced frame creating the impression of a homeless person in charity clothes and his gaunt face show the 56 year old’s illness has taken it’s toll on his normally healthy physique.

We’ve seen several of our favourite celebrities facing adverse conditions of late, Liam Neeson losing his wife, Natasha Richardson, to a skiing accident, Patrick Swayze fighting cancer, Jade Goody losing her battle to cancer and now we’re seeing the beautiful Farrah Fawcett in a battle for her life.

At 62 years of age, the former Charlie’s Angel star has taken her battle to Germany where she has hopefully received treatment that will finally rid her of the awful disease.

Reports that Patrick Swayze is making an ‘excellent response’ to the treatment he is receiving for his pancreatic cancer must be music to both his, and his family’s ears.

Normally, one would suppose that having been diagnosed with cancer, this might be a good time for Patrick Swayze to give up the dreaded weed but with the cancer having spread pretty much to all Patrick’s vital organs and the prognosis not being for a life of longevity perhaps the star of Dirty Dancing is getting his pleasures anywhere he can.
