About 5,000 people were on hand to welcome Michael Phelps back home to Baltimore, Maryland, after his record-setting eight gold medals at the Beijing Summer Olympics. The crowds lined the streets for a welcome home parade, followed by a celebration at Fort McHenry.
Phelps walked onto the makeshift stage to cheers from thousands of people, many of whom arrived several hours before the event.
“There’s no better place to be than right here in Baltimore!” he told the crowd.
The “Star-Spangled Salute” started with a recap of Phelps’ performance in China and featured speeches by Gov. Martin O’Malley and Baltimore Mayor read more ....

It was really only a matter of time. Seems like anyone who’s accomplished anything is writing a book nowadays. Not that winning eight gold medals isn’t a HUGE accomplishment, but now Michael Phelps will be putting down his memories and advice into a memoir to be released in time for the holiday season.
