Calling himself the World’s Greatest Second Banana, showed the world just how unassuming and non seriously Ed McMahon took himself in life as he spent many of his celebrity years in the shadow of the late Johnny Carson.

And today that ’second banana’ has finally quit a rapidly decreasing ‘bunch’ of early American television icons when he passed away peacefully just after midnight at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, as reported by his friend and former publicist Howard Bragman.

The ‘Heeeeeeere’s Johnny’ side kick of Johnny Carson, Ed McMahon, hasn’t had the best time over the past two years. In 2008 Ed was in a fight to keep his home from being repossessed as the recession began to take a grip on the property market.
