He may not be a big-screen star but he made a name for himself writing classic, award-winning children’s books like “Where the Wild Things Are” (one of my childhood faves!), and this week Maurice Sendak celebrated his 80th birthday in true star style.

Fans and friends like Meryl Streep, James Gandolfini, Catherine Keener came as well-wishers, along with director Spike Jonze, who adapted “Wild Things” as a movie to be released in October 2009.

“James Gandolfini Plants a Hit on a Fan”

Looks like James Gandolfini hasn’t completely retired his mob boss role! The Sopranos leader shocked onlookers at JFK airport Tuesday afternoon as an impatient fan met up with the actor’s fist.

The Daily Mail reports that Gandolfini had just stepped off a flight from L.A. after appearing at the Screen Actors Guild Awards when the assault took place. Here’s how it went down…

Director John Turturro has come up with wacky ideas for films in the past, so we can just chalk this one up to “originality.“

Romance & Cigarettes is set to music by power icons such as James Brown and Bruce Springsteen, and stars some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The list includes Kate Winslet, Mary Louise Parker, James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, and Mandy Moore, just to name a few.

Our bet is this is the next cult classic.
