What a great choice for the host of the 2009 Oscars, Hugh Jackman! An Australian!

With all the talk of economic stimulus packages, financial melt downs, Ponzi schemes and house repossession the choice of Hugh to host the Oscars could be the best thing to happen to America for months.

As a native Aussie, hopefully the hunky star of Australia, will steer right away from political jokes and refrain from taking the opportunity to take a hit at the country’s problems and the politicians responsible both for them, and for solving them.

Apart from the recent death of Heath Ledger this is probably one of the saddest pieces of information to come out the world of celebrity so far this year.

Patrick Swayzee, known for his ‘dirty dancing’ moves in the movie of the same name, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Patrick was given the news a month ago and since them rumours have abounded of him only having weeks to live. • It was the hairdresser’s fault! Ken Paves, the celebrity stylist behind Jessica Simpson’s locks, walked out on Britney Spears before the VMAs. That would explain the bad weave… perhaps it put her into a trance so she forgot how to dance? Actress Sherri Shepherd, who has served as guest co-host on ABC’s The View on multiple occasions, will fill a permanent seat on the daytime talk show starting next week.

Shepherd will join new co-host Whoopi Goldberg along with Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabitch Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Walters announced yesterday that a formal announcement would come next week on the talk program; but sources at ABC Television leaked the information to the Associated Press in advance of the on air announcement.
