“She might have all this fame and wealth but she’s never been so down as she is now.” Friends are fearing for Amy Winehouse as daunting material for her upcoming album has begun to surface.

The fickle artist - who is currently working on and off with producer/mentor Mark Ronson - has allegedly become a “recluse” as she prefers to lie low in her flat “writing about death” over spending time with her pals.

“Her next album is darker than ever,” a close acquaintance told The Sun. “Amy’s got low self-esteem anyway but her skin has made her want to hide away from the rest of the world. And we have started noticing more and more cuts on her arms.”

Although the music on the new CD is rather grim, the source asserts that it will be a smash.

“She’s written quite a lot of the third album already,” the insider concluded. “It is very, very dark but she produces some of her best music when she’s in pain – and the past few months have been hell for her.”

Apparently over the weekend Winehouse checked herself into rehab, let’s hope this stay does the trick once and for all!
