Its 45 years later and Paul McCartney is still right at the top in New York City and still stopping traffic, being mobbed by crowds and protected by the NYPD.

As Britain’s most famous musician, and export, took to the roof of the famous Ed Sullivan Theater on Manhattan’s Broadway it was as though the clock had been turned back to those heady days of Beatlemania, and Paul enjoyed it just as much as he did when he was a part of the Fab Four!

As one of only two remaining members of The Beatles, along with Ringo Starr, Paul is truly a national treasure and as such was treated to the reception of a celebrity who’s career has stood the test of time and expands 5 decades.

Sir Paul’s performance for the David Letterman Show came 45 years after he performed alongside George Harrison, Ringo, and John Lennon on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, when the mop haired boys from Liverpool attracted a TV audience of 74million in the U.S.A.

At 67 years of age, wearing a pink shirt, and moving with all the grace of a 22 year old, from a distance, watching Paul perform a mix of his solo material and Beatles tracks, including Get Back, Back in the USSR, Helter Skelter and Band On The Run, it was evident that time had hardly taken its toll on Paul.

This wasn’t the first time Paul has performed up on a roof. Back in 1969 he and lads, climbed to the top of their record label, Apple, building in London, and gave a crowd stopping show.

Prior to the start of his rooftop show, Sir Paul was interviewed by chat show host David Letterman about his memories of his first American gig.
Paul recalled, ‘Just the memory of being here was great…it was kind of scary the first time. We were like eight, nine years old… people know my history much better than I do.’

Paul also shared his memories of one of his old recording pals, Michael Jackson, with whom he recorded The Girl is Mine and Say, Say, Say, he continued, ’It was great, we had a great time.’

While the world of celebrity, and fans, mourn the death of 50 year old Jackson from a drug overdose, it was great to see that a guy who had lead the way for the British invasion of the music industry in the USA, survived the death of his wife Linda from cancer, a disastrous marriage to Heather Mills, endless scandal stories of LSD use in the 1960’s and 45 years in the industry, can still pull an amazed audience in the center of New York City.

Truly a king of pop!
