Tuesday afternoon will see the return of the greatness of America’s past and the debatable future of America meeting at The White House as Barack Obama invites Nancy Reagan to witnesses the signing of the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act. The act has been described as, ‘To plan and carry out activities to honor Ronald Reagan, provide assistance to governmental agencies and civic groups to carry out such activities; and…develop other federal activities to honor Ronald Reagan”
Former Republican President Ronald Reagan, would have been 100 years on February 6th 2011 and the act is to honour that centenary birthday.

The 88 year old Nancy, who still lends her voice to the debate on stem cell research and the research into Alzheimer’s research, recently told Vanity Fair magazine that she was bemused as to why Barack Obama overlooked an invitation to her when he announced his decision to resume stem cell research when it has long been known that her support of the practice is of paramount importance to the cause.
With the debilitating illness of Alzheimer’s disease having taken it’s toll on her husband, Ronald, Nancy realized that stem cell research could help put an end to the thousands of people who suffer and die from the disease throughout the world annually.
And so, while Mrs Reagan is attending the unveiling of the Ronald Reagan Statue in Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol, Obama has at last found time to meet with the octogenarian who has made an amazing recovery from a fall last September which saw her breaking her pelvis, and who has traveled across the country to show her commitment to her chosen cause.
Lets just hope that Obama doesn’t make anymore of his half hearted jokes about Nancy’s association with ‘the after life’ as he did when he was asked if he had spoken to any other ex presidents following his election in January this year when he said he had spoken to all former presidents, “that are living, I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, holding any séances.” Nancy was derided in 1988 when Ronald’s former chief of staff Donald Regan revealed in a book that the first lady had consulted an astrologer to determine the president’s schedule.

Maybe it was Obama’s embarrassment that restricted his invitation to Nancy following his decision to pursue stem cell research, or maybe the cards told him, ‘dont even go there!’
