If there’s on actor who can fill the shoes of the great Robert Redford as The Sundance Kid, it has to be the equally vertically challenged Tom Cruise, and if rumours are to be believed, that’s exactly who the late Paul Newman gave his blessing to resurrect his famous movie.

Cruise has had a life long ambition to play the role of Sundance and now he may well be seeing his dream come true as he and fellow scientologist, John Travolta are believed to be adding their own style and personalities to the much loved criminal cowboy duo, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Although a couple of years ago there were rumours of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck starring in a remake of the musical cowboy movie, nothing came to fruition. However, this time the rumours may actually hold water given that Cruise and Travolta are close friends, Newman gave Cruise his blessing and Tom is known to have a penchant to play the role.
In recent years, Cruise’s best movies have seen him donning a uniform, Valkyrie, Top Gun, A Few Good Men and of course even his unaccredited role as a cowboy in Young Guns in 1988. So maybe wearing a cowboy hat once again will see Tom having yet another movie success to his credit.

And lets not forget Travolta! He can look pretty good in a Stetson too, as we saw in his movie Urban Cowboy in 1980.
A source also spoke of Cruise‘s anticipated role saying, “Butch and Sundance is a labour of love for Tom, he was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can’t wait to get to work.”
Time will tell!
