Striving for Glory: Will Heath Ledger “Take Home” the Gold?

Posted under Free for All

Good news this way comes for fans of Dark Knight; it appears that the wildly popular action-packed hit will be making a swift return to theatres in 2009!

Yes the film is still technically available now, but it’ll no doubt be disappearing faster than you can snarl “Why so serious?”

Here’s the low-down according to The Hollywood Reporter

“Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX execs over the prospect of restoring the Christian Bale starrer to some giant-screen venues in January. It’s uncertain if Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional venues at that point.”

Translation: if you can’t manage to get your butt to an IMAX multiplex, you might be SOL!

It’s very interesting that the flick is hitting back in January, seeing as the Academy Awards will be a blink away at that point. Oscar buzz has been accumulating ever since the premiere of Dark Knight, with some even suggesting that the late Heath Ledger should win a posthumous trophy for his brilliant portrayal of the Joker.

Of course a studio insider who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter brushed off the notion that the perfectly-timed re-release had anything to do with the Oscars by saying - “It’s just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people.”

Mmhmm. I’m sure the prospect of winning best visual effects, directing and acting hasn’t influenced Warner Bros. one bit!
