In a recent poll, Heath Ledger’s Joker came out on top. His haunting portrayal of the classic villain in The Dark Night won 95 percent of votes in a poll by AOL’s MovieFone.com Web site.

And it’s no surprise that his character took top honors. The film itself has raked in $505 million across U.S and Canada so far, and also won every category in which it was nominated for the end of summer season poll, including best sequel, best superhero movie, best action sequence and “movie most worth your cash.”

No doubt fans have the tragedy surrounding Ledger’s death on their minds, but the film definitely speaks for itself and his villain is at once repulsive and mesmerizing.

Other films in top categories included Sex and the City starring Sarah Jessica Parker which edged out Mamma Mia starring Meryl Streep, as the best chick flick of the summer.
