Looks like they needed some big guns to get The Sex and the City movie off the ground.
Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of the movie, which begins shooting in New York next week.

Hudson will play the assistant of Carrie Bradshaw (played of course by Sarah Jessica Parker).

Looks like they made Carrie a little more successful in the big screen version.

In July, the show’s four leads, including Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, agreed to star in the film. Chris Noth also joined the cast to reprise his role as Mr. Big.

Michael Patrick King is writing and directing.

Hudson, who won the Oscar for her supporting role in Dreamgirls, is fresh off filming Winged Creatures starring Kate Beckinsale, Forest Whitaker, Jackie Earle Haley and Dakota Fanning.

The former “American Idol” is also in the studio working on her debut album for Arista Records, due for release in 2008.

Hudson should spice things up a bit with the all over-45 cast.
