Posted under Free for All & Sarah Jessica Parker & Joan Van Ark & Matt LeBlanc & Shannen Doherty & Linda Evans

Why are the TV and movie industries so retrospective these days? Is it because there is an election and we cant bare to look to the future and we find that the past represents a much happier time?
First we had the Sex and the City movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker, which, to be fair only harks back to between 5 -10 years.

Now we have the prospect of the Friends series being made into a big screen event, bringing together once again Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
There’s also the recent resurrection of The Hulk and Batman movies which date back several decades but never cease to draw the audiences.

So with all this in mind, it begs the question, do we really need to see the resurgence of Beverly Hills 90210?

Does the most famous zip code in Beverly Hills need to see the return of Shannen Doherty and her now aging screen mates?
After a couple of decades of being out of the public eye, it might come as a bit of a shock to most viewers, and former fans of Beverly Hills 90210, to catch a glimpse of the once svelte and beautiful Shannen Doherty who is now steaming towards her 40th birthday and showing definite signs of having played and partied hard during her 20’s.

Along with the deterioration of Doherty there is also the issue of reuniting her character of Brenda Walsh with her co-stars, Tori Spelling, who has moved on in real life and also in the TV series too, and is rumored to now play the role of a big shot in the world of fashion and Jennie Garth, in the role of Kelly Taylor.

But even more important to the return of the much loved series is Luke Perry, the bad-boy, heartthrob, boyfriend of Walsh. As to his desire to rekindle his relationship as Dylan McKay with Doherty’s Walsh, he has already said, he’s out. “It’s just not something I’ve thought about to be quite honest. I don’t see it happening,” he told Access Hollywood in June.
But with Doherty’s reputation for just, upping sticks and moving on, as she did with Charmed, it may be in the interest of the producer of the new show to develop a storyline that maybe only involves Doherty being mentioned by name, not actually turning up in person.

With the surfacing of so many ‘has-been’ celebs the best we can hope for is that we never have to witness the shoulder padded Linda Evans of Dynasty, the poison dwarf of Dallas, Charlene Tilton or the quivering mouthed Valene played by Joan Van Ark of Knots Landing, gracing our HD TV’s!
