Whatever anyone thinks about Mel Gibson, his personal life or his film making, he certainly has a knack for ‘type’ casting.

Gibson wants to film a remake of the 1928 movie La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc originally directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer and starring no one of any interest!

And Gibson is going to repeat that format by signing up Britney Spears as the long suffering Joan!

Carting Britney off to the stake!

Apparently when Mel Gibson and Britney Spears met up last week they were collaborating on the new movie.

Apart from not being physically burnt at the stake, 2007 was pretty much as traumatic for Britney as 1431 was for poor old Joan herself, so she should fall quite naturally into the role.

But maybe Mel should take a look at his career of recent months and the one movie, Crossroads, that Britney actually did star in before he signs her up for such a dramatic role. Well at least we assume it would be a drama, guess it could be a comedy, with a little tweaking!

Brit’s one and only attempt in the movies saw her starring with Kim Cattrall, Dan Aykroyd and Zoe Saldana. The movie was produced on a budget of $12 million and earned a total of $61,141,030 worldwide. Compare that with Mel’s The Passion of the Christ, which grossed $610,000,000 worldwide and even his Apocalypto which was released amid Mel’s rantings while under the influence of alcohol didn’t do that badly!
