Teri Hatcher Re-ignites a Decades-Old Romance

teri hatcher blog.jpgTeri Hatcher’s new partnership with designer Badgley Mischka is a match made in red carpet, Hollywood heaven. Seriously. You can’t make this stuff up.

Hatcher wore a dress made by the designers, Mark Badgley and James Mischka when she starred in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the 1990s. As Hollyweird legend would have it, Hatcher bumped into the designers on the red carpet of the American Idol finale back in May - where she apparently reminded them of the Badgley Mischka masterpiece made just for her all those years ago.

So, when they ended up inviting her to be the new face for their brand, Hatcher brought the original Lois & Clark gown with her - a hand-painted silver-ish silk velvet gown with a baroque pattern - that she wore to the 1995 Emmys.

Designer Mischka remembers her as one of the line’s first celebrities - paving the way for the likes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Sharon Stone, who also have appeared in ads for Badgley Mischka.

Now that B-M has branched out a bit from the elaborate evening gown - which was known as their signature piece back 10 to 12 years ago -Hatcher will have a whole new look to convey. No doubt she’ll keep the regal and poised style she’s known for - whether she’s in formal evening wear or not. Which, Badgley says, is perfect for the line today. He says, since Hatcher is both sophisticated and down-to-earth, she’s a good fit for today’s Badgley Mischka. Now, she’ll be tasked with presenting some of Badgley Mischka’s other offerings. Most recently the designers created lines for denim, swimwear and sunglasses - among other things.

Adding the Prince Charming to this fairy tale, Hatcher is apparently the exact same size as the brand’s fit model.

But the allure of Hatcher to Badgley Mischka obviously goes beyond just literally being a good fit. September is the month many fashion lines launch their new campaigns in the issues of noted fashion magazines. Designers look for people that will be “credible” as a model - recognizable, generally respected as a fashionista, and someone who can give character to the clothes and the brand.

(Some other notable faces gracing the pages of what’s probably the hottest, thickets magazine publication all year: Sienna Miller for Tod, Claudia Schiffer for Salvatore Ferragamo, Angelina Jolie for St. John and Mikhail Gorbachev for Louis Vuitton. Seriously.)

Hatcher’s upcoming ad features a purple gown, in which she’s sipping champagne, and sitting with the designers. Although Badgley says, he and Mischka were a bit upset they did not have glasses of bubbly!
