Remember that 1980 romantic duet with Olivia Newton John, ‘Suddenly?’ That was one of Britain’s best loved singers accompanying Olivia, Cliff Richard. In his time he was the UK’s answer to Elvis Presley.

But now, after the 67 year old star has released nine festive-themed Christmas singles and achieved four Christmas number one singles, and narrowly missed out on the Christmas number one last year when his song 21st Century Christmas only reached the number two spot, Cliff has declared that he wont be vying for the number one position in the Christmas race for a number one hit in the future.

He says, “Everybody thinks I’m the only one who releases a record at Christmas but everyone and their mother does one. I’ve got an album out for Christmas but no single. Singles are such a no no now - you can’t sell them.”

Cliff’s reputation as the only star with a number one hit at Christmas once inspired a bumper sticker which read, ‘Make Jesus number one this Christmas, not Cliff’.

Christmas without Cliff would be like Donald Trump without his comb over or Larry King without his braces!!
