You may know Kari Byron from the Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters, where she solves all of the world’s greatest mysteries. But the Bay Area girl is in fact an artist at heart. She was quoted recently saying, “I seem to work in two directions. I do portraits or I make sculptures exploring my cynical view of contemporary issues. Artists that over-explain their art always take away from my experience as a viewer. I try to let my viewer make their own message. Art becomes more personal if you let yourself become involved. I will always explain my motivations and themes if someone asks but I prefer to hear theirs.”

Byron in fact had no intention of putting herself in front of the camera until she stumbled onto the Mythbusters set while seeking another job. On the day they were filming they needed someone to bust a myth about a large woman who used an airplane bathroom an became stuck in the toilet. But the myth was in fact proven wrong by taking a model of Kari’s a$$ and turning it into an obese woman’s via computer animation!

Before walking right into a starring television role Kari was “lost” working as a martini taster in various bars for a liquor company. Not to mention traveling the world as a backpacker. Clearly she has found her main calling, busting myths, making busts and being an artist all at once.
