Couple Dirt

While the surprising news of Usher’s wedding cancellation (and preggers fiancée Tameka Foster’s subsequent emergency trip to the hospital that turned out okay) took center stage in celebrity couples’ land this past week, you might want to catch up on some of the other couples-related goings-on you may have missed: Babies, babies, babies; a new engagement; two rumored make-ups; and some country music-star lovin’, to be exact.

First, we’ve got two more celebrity babies (both boys, actually) to welcome into the world: Story Elias (yes, that’s right, the name is Story, but we prefer that over Apple), and Maxwell (a bit better!) Alston. Story is the product of Jenna Elfman, star of Dharma & Greg, and her hubby Bodhi, and was born on July 23 at just over seven pounds. Elfman’s rep reportedly told Us Weekly that the actress’ new baby loves “classical music, a clean diaper, Mom’s boobs, and long naps.” Sounds like a pretty standard baby. Famous The Bachelorette couple Trista Sutter and Ryan Sutter (who met on the show and later married on an ABC special) welcomed little Maxwell three days later (July 26), reports Us Magazine.

And guess who’s knocked up (besides Nicole Richie, that is)? Caroline Fentress! Um…who? Make that the wife of actor Chris O Donnell (who is not related to Rosie O Donnell). Chris and Caroline thought it might be fun to add another one to their litter: the longtime couple, who’s been married for an impressive 10 years, already has four kids ages seven and under: Lily, Chip, Charlie, and Finley. O Donnell told Today co-host Ann Curry that they’re all “really excited about it.” Well, then, all the power to ya!

Moving on from a pregnancy announcement to an engagement announcement, another item of couples’ news from this past week was Eddie Murphy’s girlfriend, the newly divorced-from-Kenneth-“Babyface”-Edmonds Tracey Edmonds, becoming his fiancée! Yes, Ms. Edmonds actually accepted Murphy’s proposal, complete with an eight-carat yellow Cartier diamond rock (according to OK!). Well, okay, I guess that would be hard to say “no” to. The couple reportedly plans to get hitched before the end of the year in a very private, low-key, romantic celebration. Romantic? This is Eddie Murphy—the same guy who knocked up Scary Spice (Mel B), dumped her, denied his paternity to her baby, and then for the longest time refused to take a DNA test—we’re talking about, right?

Romance may actually be in the air for two pairs of lovebirds even after reports of their break-ups. Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, who enjoyed a hot ‘n heavy “fling” earlier this year after the actress’ much-publicized divorce from Ryan Phillippe, seemed to have cooled it down a few notches (and some say all together) a few months ago. However, the couple has been spotted together recently, with Witherspoon photographed picking up Gyllenhaal from his home in Hollywood Hills and bringing him back to her place in Brentwood.

Hmmm….and what about the ever-sexy Jessica Alba and her alleged ex-boyfriend Cash Warren? The two reportedly split for good just last week (Jessica telling him she didn’t love him anymore over the phone seemed to do the trick), but they have also been seen together since then, hanging out, having lunch, leaving in the same car, etc. What’s going on?

Well, two couples who are definitely together are livin’ life in the country music scene. Country music songstress and beauty Faith Hill jumped to her hubby Tim McGraw’s defense this past week when one of his female fans grabbed his crotch! Faith had this to say to the fan, reports Extra: “Somebody needs to teach you some class, my friend! You don’t go grabbin’ somebody else’s, somebody’s husband’s [private parts], you understand me? That’s very disrespectful!”

Meanwhile, country star Alan Jackson’s wife Denise is “coming out of the closet” with her new book, It’s All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life. Now, this ain’t just another cheesy/sappy book on love or marriage (as much as the title might lead you to believe), but rather an in-depth look at Denise’s journey of pain and forgiveness in light of her hubby’s (past) cheating ways. Yikes! But, apparently, the country music community has embraced the book, according to Denise, who says they’ve already had endorsements from Carrie Underwood, George Jones and his wife Nancy Jones, and Ricky Skaggs.
