It was history in the making on Tuesday night as Republican former U.S. secretary of state Condoleezza Rice joined veteran singer Aretha Franklin, who performed at Democrat Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009, on stage together to perform a duet in front of an 8,000 strong audience at a charitable gig in Philadelphia’s Mann Music Center.

The pair serenaded the mesmerized onlookers with their version of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David hit written initially for Dionne Warwick in 1967, but also made famous by Franklin, ‘I Say a Little Prayer’.
